He is a grieving father who still clings to his Savior.

TobyMac lost his son Truett unexpectedly, and opened up about his son’s life on his website, TobyMac.com. He also shared a screen shot of their last text exchange. (To read the full post, click the link above.)

He said is son was by no means a “cookie cutter Christian,” and went on to acknowledge how lost we all are.

“Truett always had a soft spot for God. The Bible moved him. His heart was warm to the things of his King. He was by no means a cookie cutter Christian but give me a believer who fights to keep believing. Give me a broken man who recognizes his need for a Savior every time. That’s who Truett was and how he should be remembered.”

The Davidson County Medical Examiner’s says the young, aspiring rapper passed away on Wednesday.

Toby immediately left his tour to be with his family. The Grammy-winner is a husband to wife Amanda and their five children; Truett, twins Moses and Marlee, Lea and Judah.

“Truett did pass away at home in the Nashville area sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning,” a rep confirmed to USA Today.

“Cause of death has not been determined. Toby was traveling back from Canada and did not get home to be with his family until after midnight last night so there is no statement. We just ask that everyone please be respectful of their privacy during this time and allow them to grieve their loss.”

Toby wrote a song last year for Truett, as he navigated the world.

“I wrote this one for my boy. I wanted to let him know that I’m here for him, and that God is there for him. So lift your head up my son, to where your help comes from.”

Lyrics for the song hint at a strained relationship between the two, which is certainly common between parents and children at points in their lives.

Now you won’t take my phone calls
You won’t text me back at all
I just wanna see you
I can’t stand to see you gone
Yesterday I missed you
Yesterday I played your song
I’m oversimplifyin’, I’m oversimplifyin’

But try and rememberYou are not alone
We’ve all been there
Scars come with livin’
You are not alone
We’ve all been there (been there, been there, oh), oh
So lift your head, lift your head
Lift your head to where your help comes from

Friends please, please pray for Toby, his family and their friends. Tragedies like these do not discriminate against anyone, and Toby and his loved ones will need to feel the Holy Spirit and the prayer of millions at this time, and the time to come.

Let’s pray that the Lord shower them with love and hope, and that he may be able to properly grieve, yet move forward with the help of his son’s memory pushing him along.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
