Christmas Music You’ll Actually Want to Hear…Whether You’re Obsessed or Not

Christmas Music You’ll Actually Want to Hear…Whether You’re Obsessed or Not

For YEARS we were obsessed with Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and anything Michael Buble…until we weren’t.

When it comes to Christmas music, it comes down to the classics such as Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole (still love!) or pop artists doing yet another trendy rendition to a classic carol.

But I’ve noticed that there’s one genre of artists that successfully give their take on Christmas classics…and KILL IT with brand new, original holiday songs.

The meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with tacky Santas and reindeer, but everything to do with the birth of Jesus Christ. And because we’re worshiping our Savior, it’s literally the best recipe for a hit song!

Below, I’ve compiled my list of songs that have become my personal favorites. They’re so good, I don’t even listen to the classics (or Mariah anymore) for that matter!

  • 1. BEST CHRISTMAS WORSHIP ALBUMS

Chris Tomlin – Adore – Chris Tomlin and Hillsong are my FAVORITE Christian artists. I absolutely love their worship music, so I love anything by them.

PLAYLIST: Chris Tomlin: Adore

Chris Tomlin: Christmas Songs of Worship – see above. This is the latest one! Love it 🙂

Matt Maher: Christmas -Can’t get enough of Born on This Day or Hope For Everyone! Matt is a fantastic worship leader, so of course I’m going to love his songs!

PLAYLIST: Matt Maher Christmas

Matt Redman: These Christmas Lights – I basically bought the whole album. Each song that I bought is original, and becoming a classic in my Christmas collection. Not even kidding.

Lauren Daigle: Behold -It’s Adele. That’s all the explanation needed.

PLAYLIST: Lauren Daigle: Behold

Kari Jobe: Christmas

Casting Crowns: Why You Were Sleeping – Another album featuring a long list of songs I downloaded. Just like Chris Tomlin and Hillsong, Casting Crowns have been my favorite for so long. They produce music with strong messages…and it’s all about the lyrics for me!

  • 2. BEST OVERALL FAMILY ALBUMS

Sidewalk Prophets: Merry Christmas to You – Obsessed with this album. Obsessed. What a Glorious Night and Hope Was Born this Night are my FAVORITES from the entire album.

Francesa Battistelli- Christmas

  • 3. BEST GENERAL CHRISTMAS ALBUMS

For King and Country: Into the Silent Night EP -It’s For King and Country. That’s all. Plus, I like their romantic Christmas song, which is the title of the EP.

We Are Messengers: From Heaven to Earth – They have such a unique sound being that they’re from the UK. And as you all know, I’m obsessed with the UK!

Meredith Andrews: Come Though Long Expected Jesus – This song was my JAM last year. And as a theology student, being that this was written by the famous brother of a famous theologian…..YES! I think her version is the best I’ve heard so far.

Matthew West- The Heart of Christmas

Phil Wickham- Christmas

  • 4. Best R&B/Hip-Hop

The Gift: A Christmas Compilation– This album is full of your favorite Reach Records artists like Lecrae and Tedashi. If you’re a straight hip-hop fan and can’t stand Christmas carols…this is your album!

Riley Clemmons- The First Christmas EP -If you’re into modern takes on Christmas classics that aren’t irritating but super addicting, then this is for you. Did I forget her KILLER voice?
